Cards (3 of 25) – “Bad BlackJack″

This week !

How did someone earn one ?  It helps if your dice hate you – or if you’ve had an otherwise lucky streak that was destined to end.  You toss the d20 to strike your enemy and BICKETY-BAM, it’s a natural 20 !!  You’re elated at the prospect of the damage your high-level Rogue and her +3 Fire-Burst Heavy Pick are about to deal, oh and did we mention this was a sneak attack as well ?  As the prospects of a {4d4 + 16 + 5d6 + 3d10 + 1d8 + … + …} damage roll dance in your heart, you roll to confirm the Crit…and frak.  A natural 1.  Normal damage.  What a waste !

How frequently were they awarded ?  Sadly, all too often.  Felt like the 20+1 “Bad BlackJack” came up statistically more often than did the “Bowling 400”, all things considered.

Who earned this card most often ?  Really, it felt like I myself did.  Maybe just because I was playing a Rogue with heaps of Sneak Attack damage available on a Critical Hit thanks to a feat I’d taken, Telling Blow.

The “Cards” series of posts recalls the special “trophy” business-cards awarded to players during E.G.’s original D&D v.3.5 game several years ago.  This is a weekly post.
